Indian Hot Springs

This is one of my favorite hot springs.  This is a favorite because at the time, I was living in Denver and the drive was only a half hour away west up I-70 to Idaho Springs.  In this small mountain town is a 100 year old attraction called Indian Hot Springs.   Anytime of the year is great time to visit this mineral spring. There are several options of soaking and I mention 3 of them below.  Accommodations are available in the lodge, cabins and a campground,  if you want to stay overnight.  And you won't want to miss the mud baths or massage services that are also available.  I guarantee you will be relaxed by the time you are ready to leave.

Geo-Thermal Cave Baths -  This is a tunnel that goes right into the mountain.  Women are on one side, Men on the other.  At the back is an opening that at one time allowed for everyone to go back and forth.  I think it got out of hand and now there is a fence.  There are 3 pools in each tunnel with different temperatures.  Fresh mineral water flows through a pipe for everyone to drink also.  Doesn't taste too bad either.  Plus, there are marble slabs to lay on right next to these pools.  The tunnel gets so steamy at times, you feel like you are in a sauna as well. These baths are open 7:30 am to 10:30 pm.  Bathing suits are optional.

Private Baths (Indoor and Outdoor) -  These usually need to be reserved.  They are perfect if you want some alone time.

Mineral Water Swimming Pool - This is a favorite for families.  The swimming pool is continually fed with hot mineral water at 115 degrees. With an overall temperature of 90+ degrees. Open 9 am to 10 pm.

I have since left the area and wish I lived closer as this was one of my first and still a favorite of mine, especially after a long day of cross-country skiing.   Indian Hot Springs may be offering specials and packages.  So, be sure to visit their website soon.

Orient Land Trust/ Valley View Hot Springs

The Valley View Hot Springs is located about 2 hours north of Alamosa, CO.  The setting is overlooking the valley and the company operates everything off grid.  They are making some changes and would like to hear from you.

Please send your ideas for the survey

OLT is creating a survey to facilitate communication within the Orient Land Trust community and optimize resources and we need your help!   The results of the survey will help the board and staff to better know what the OLT community feels are topics important to the future of OLT.  This information will help us better plan the future of the OLT.

We are asking each of you to spend some valuable time to give us your ideas about topics and/or questions of importance to the OLT community.

Possible questions could relate to conservation projects, site planning and projects for Valley View Hot Springs or Everson Ranch, visitor services, general ambiance, etc.  Please let us know what you feel should be explored.

We will collect these suggestions and create a survey with the most prevalent and important issues.  We will then distribute that survey back to you.

To give you a broad framework within which to work, here is the OLT mission and guiding principles within which OLT must always function:

“Orient Land Trust is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to the preservation of natural and biological resources, agricultural lands, wildlife habitat, open space, and historic and geologic features of the northern San Luis Valley for the enjoyment of current and future generations.”

You can read more about the mission and the guiding principles at www.olt.org/mission.htm.

Please send your suggested questions and topics to workingtogether@olt.org before December 31, 2010.  The survey itself is scheduled to be conducted from February 15 through March 31, 2011.

Thank you so much for your help!
